Today the Church celebrates the Feast of the Apostles Simon and Jude, two faithful, holy men whom Christ chose to help carry out His ministry. After the descent of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, they traveled together preaching the Gospel and were later martyred together for the Faith.
We learn from Simon that Christ’s love can transform our lives. Simon and the Apostle Matthew came from opposing political worlds. Simon was either a political Zealot or a zealous Jew devoted to his faith and its laws. Either way, he and Matthew, a tax collector, could not have coexisted without Jesus. He loved them and taught them to love one another despite their differences.
Similarly, we can be grateful to Jude for asking Jesus, “Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?” (John 14:22). Jesus replied, “If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him” (John 14:23).
Through the example of both Sts. Simon and Jude, we are reminded to remain faithful to Christ and to trust in Him, even amid life’s greatest challenges.
